The police in Calabar, Cross River, have confirmed that a cult clash of two rival groupsÂ onÂ Tuesday and Wednesday has claimed the lives of three suspected cultistsÂ while four of them have been arrested. The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO Irene Ugbo said that two cult groups, Axe and Klans clashed.Â "The clash claimed the lives of three suspected cultists while four persons have been arrested and are helping the police in their investigationsâ€ Ugbo further confirmed to press men when contacted herÂ about the recent killings in the state after the elections. According to her: "We have intensified patrol and the area is calm. The four persons arrested will link us to others. The victims were killed at Bedwell and Ambo Streets respectively in Calabar South local government area of the Stateâ€ Weekend Pioneer gathered that the suspected cultists were murdered in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State and were killed on Tuesday and Wednesday.Â The first victim was slaughtered at Ambo Street by 11pm on Tuesday while others were killed in the early and late hours of Wednesday. An eyewitness who declined to give his name, lamented the incident and said, "One person was butchered to death by three young men by 11pm on Tuesday along Ambo Street in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State.â€ He further revealed that the victim at Ambo was not known by anybody in the area as suspected cultists are many in the area, alleging that others were killed at various locations including Afokang, Chamley and Bedwel Streets.
