Lawmaker Solicits Financial Support For Students

The member for Nsit Ubium State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has sued for financial support and scholarships to qualified students of Akwa Ibom State origin to enhance academic excellence. Mr Otobong Bob said this during a familiarization meeting of the House Committee on Education with the Ministry of Education recently as part of the committee's oversight functions. Bob, a lawyer, harped on the need for the government to invest judiciously in the education sector in spite of the present economic challenges facing the state and the country and also considering the overall benefits of education to the present day society. He stated that education was the bedrock of the advancement of the society, as such no society should toy with the sector, noting the influx of students who visits his office seeking financial assistance to enable them meet and cater for their educational needs. The lawmaker called on the commissioner for education and corporate bodies to rise and salvage the falling standards of education in the present day society for efficient and effective growth and development in the sector.
