The speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly (AKHA) has lauded the member for Ukanafun State Constituency, Dr Charity Ido, on the inauguration of her constituency office at Ikot Akpa Nkuk in Ukanafun Local Government.
Mr Aniekan Bassey, who thanked Dr Ido for empowering her constituency within six months in office, pointed out that her gesture was really unprecedented.
Bassey described Ido as a square peg in a square hole and commended her for living upto her responsibilities as a lawmaker and called for more support from Ukanafun people to enable her achieve more laudable strides in the remaining years.
"I am happy to be here. Dr Charity Ido is a square peg in a square hole. As a matter of fact, she heads one of the most powerful committees in the House of Assembly. So it was not surprising when she told me that she will have an empowerment programme within six months in office. Today, you have opened your constituency office and I have seen the number of people you have empowered, you have done very well, Bassey stated. He assured that members of the 7th Assembly under his leadership would continue to provide a conducive environment for Ido to excel in her legislative engagements, recalling that Ukanafun had lost so much recently due to the crises that engulfed the area as they would continue to support Ido for her to do well for Ukanafun people and thanked everyone who contributed to bring the crises to an end for peace to return to the area.
The speaker also lauded Gov Udom Emmanuel for his support to the 7th Assembly and urged the people to remain steadfast with the current administration in the state.
He sued for unity among the people and specifically called on youths to chart the way forward for the development of Ukanafun Local Government by shunning acts that may disrupt peace and order which have since returned to the area.
Bassey stated that the governor has been good with them as lawmakers, saying that without his support, they would not have been able to do much for the people.
He thanked Ido for ensuring that her constituents felt the support of the governor too and appealed to the youth, elders and women of Ukanafun to embrace and maintain peace for development as it cannot thrive in an environment of crises.
Members of the Assembly who attended the event included member for Uyo State Constituency, Mr. Anietie Eka; member for Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency, Elder Aniekan Uko and member for Abak State Constituency, Elder Udeme Otong.
Also in attendance were stakeholders and political class from Ukanafun Local Government Area including a former commissioner in the state, Obong Eno Akpan, among others.
