Nsom Uruan Commends Speaker Over Car Gift To TRC

The Nsom and the paramount ruler of Uruan,  Edidem Atakpo Cosmas Nkanga, has commended the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Aniekan Bassey, for providing a Toyota Sienna car to the traditional rulers' council in the area.
The car gift was part of the largesse splashed on the people of the area by the lawmaker to mark the 2019 Christmas celebrations.
The royal father who expressed appreciation to the lawmaker said the car would ease the mobility of the Nsom's council, especially when on official engagement, stressing that the entire council was very happy with the speaker's kind gesture.
Edidem Nkanga, who received the car on behalf of the TRC described the speaker as a caring leader who is interested in the wellbeing of his constituents which also includes the traditional institution.
He used the occasion to plead with the speaker to remind the state governor on the need to construct the only access road from Ibiaku Issiet to his palace at Ikot Edung,  noting that the road traversed Ikot Edung to Ekpene Ibia, thus making it easier for him to link up with people in other parts of South Eastern Uruan, rather than the current practice where he has to go through South South Uruan before he can link up with people in the South East.
The royal father also reminded the speaker not to forget the issue of omitted and ungazetted villages  in Uruan, stressing that recognition for these villages will enhance improved security, especially in the coastal areas, stressing that at the moment, the people there were laws onto themselves as they lacked leadership.
Earlier, the speaker had urged political office-holders in the state to accord more respect to traditional leaders.
He said:  "As custodians of culture and values, traditional rulers play important roles in the growth of every society and as such, must be revered and accorded respect by political office- holders.”
The speaker donated a new vehicle and other gift items to the Traditional Rulers Council, saying the gesture was to identify with the royal fathers at Christmas and thanked them for their support and prayers.
He also promised to help in the remodeling of the paramount ruler's palace and sued for peace and unity among the people during and after the festive season.
