The councillorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward One, Ekpene Obo in Esit Eket during the last local government election in the state, Comrade Ekemini Ayanga, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ekemini announced his defection alongside 54 others at a get-together party organized by the PDP ward deputy political leader, Major Ayanga Esibe (rtd), in his residence in Ekpene Obo.
He appreciated the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for bringing forth true democracy to the people of Esit Eket and Akwa Ibom.
"I left APC because of the absence of internal democracy, I want to thank the leadership of PDP for the true democracy exhibiting from the unit to the state level, Ekemini stressed.
He applauded the PDP political leader and his deputy in the area, Elder Benjamin Udobia and
Bassey Dan-Abia (Jnr), the executive chairman of Esit Eket, Mr Iniobong Nnamso, for his continuous support to the present administration in the state.
He thanked them for always carrying people along irrespective of party differences.
Receiving the defectors, the PDP ward chairman, Mr. Assam Harry James, said that APC had nothing to offer the state and nation at large.
He thanked them for their decision to dump APC to PDP and promised to carry them along.
He also expressed happiness that the defectors were joining the party based on their personal conviction.
Addressing the gathering, the deputy political leader in the ward, Major Ayanga Esibe, thanked the governor for the immediate intervention of the drainage project at Ekpene Obo.
Esibe solicited for more projects to be executed in the community even as he thanked the political leader of the area, Udobia, and his deputy, Dan-Abia (Jnr), for exhibiting good leadership qualities and carrying people along in the area.
The ward deputy political leader called on the party faithful and defectors to work tirelessly to ensure that they return Mr Iniobong Nnamso for a second term in office as the council chairman in the next local government election.
Present at the get-together were Ubong Ntukidem, PDP chapter assistant publicity secretary, Deacon Aniefiok Assam, village youth president, Ini Ekong, ward PDP youth leader among others.
