The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2016 gubernatorial election has said what the party need in the forthcoming election is "somebody who can contest and win, not an individual whose only desire is to be the candidate of the party.â€
Eyitayo Jegede, stated this during his consultative meeting with PDP stakeholders from Ile-Oluji/ Oke Igbo, Ilaje and Ose Local Governments areas of the state.
Addressing the party faithful, Jegede said, "we have come today to the base of Ondo State industrial evolution to present our agenda for development, this is not a restricted agenda, but one that requires the cooperation of everyone in the State.â€
According to him, "By the grace of God, development will come again to Ondo State through the PDP, but the vision will only be actualized if we present a candidate that can dislodge the APC.
"This will require a coalition†he said, the agenda will need the support and cooperation of everyone in the State, from the young to the old, the men and women, the students and traders, the SDP, the AD, the AA and even the APC themselves, and they are all waiting for a driver that can be trusted before they finally decide to come onboardâ€.
Jegede, however, appealed, appealed to the party stakeholders to look beyond the personal interest of any individual whose only desire is to be the candidate and give serious consideration to persons who have all it takes to successfully slug it out in the final contest before settling for one in the interest of the State.
Jegede said, "since this project is anchored on God, and because I have his backing to go ahead, let me re-assure all of you that I will not let you down and together with the PDP, we shall not let Ondo State down.â€
In his welcome address, chairman of the PDP in Ilaje Local Government, Pastor Omotehinse, lamented the pervasive poverty in the state and the lack of direction exhibited by the APC led government in addressing the scourge.
Omotehinse said , "if the State must be set free from the shackles of poverty, the PDP as a party must put its acts together and present a popular candidate that can chase the APC out of power in Alagbaka.â€
In his remarks, the Southern Senatorial chairman of the party, Apostle Alabere said, "I listened to the address of Mr Eyitayo Jegede and was not disappointed, and I know that if we decide in Ilaje to support his aspiration, I believe he will never forget usâ€.
Alabere stated further that when God eventually gives him victory, the people of Ilaje will need more than the position of commissioner for environment, that they can also be deputy governor, Secretary to State Government and finance commissioner among other positions.
