The president of Ikono Local Government Area Community in Lagos has advised indigenes of the area in particular and Nigerians in general to be patriotic and have a positive mindset in all their endeavours in the New Year 2020.
Mr Ita Ekanem, an engineer, gave the advice during the New Year get together ceremony of the community held at Homers Guest House, Kilo, Surulere, Lagos recently.
Impressed by the turn- out of indigenes of the area, friends, well-wishers of the community, he said the new year coming together of such magnitude was an avenue to expressed appreciation to God in all ramifications and hold unto Him for His promises and blessing, familiarize more with one another, chat the way forward for the community, assess members' performances and progress as well as assess the activities and programmes of the Akwa Ibom State government.
Assessing the report card of the Council area, Ekanem said the Council boss, Mr Itoro Columba has brought true grassroots governance to the people of the area and demonstrated genuine effort in carrying the people along in the affairs of the council.
"Fellow compatriots, we are grateful to God for seeing us through the outgoing year in good health and life. Happy New Year and a beginning of a new decade. Today, we are taking stocks, appreciating God, assessing what is going on in our council area as a whole and to make recommendations.
"I stand tall to say here that our council boss, Mr Itoro Columba, has make us proud by bringing true grassroots governance to the people of the area, for building bridges of love and unity among the people irrespective of party affiliations and interest and above all, knowing that God is overall and leading the people to Only God,â€ Ekanem said.
Ekanem, while commending the council boss for his devotion to duty and passion for the growth of the council area, advised him to remain consistent in his ideologies, assuring him of more prayer supports and encouragement from Ikono indigenes in Diaspora and added that posterity would remember him for serving Ikono people rightly.
"I am not saying these for saying sake or to get favour from the chairman or to make him happy. As an individual, I am a witness and as people of the area, we can testify. The young and vibrant man has make Ikono Local Government Area a reference point for other council areas in the state,â€ he said.
The community leader while calling on the people of the area to continue to support the council boss, reminded all that the successes recorded by the council and state in general was by the grace of God and urged them to give God His rightful place and put Him first in all endeavours.
Speaking with The Pioneer, a member of the community and indigene of the council area, Lady Pastor Imeh Inyang, confirmed the fast pace of development of Ikono LGA under the leadership Mr Itoro Columba.
