Residents of Nelson Mandela and Udoette Streets can now heave a sigh of relief as the Akwa Ibom State Roads and Other Infrastructure Maintenance Agency (AKROIMA) is set to move into the area to reconstruct the roads.
The chairman of AKROIMA, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh, who disclosed this, said the agency is ready to salvage the deplorable state of Nelson Mandela and Udoette Streets in Uyo metropolis.
Ntukudeh dropped the hint when he led members of the Board to inspect roads interventions carried out by the agency recently in the state.
He also charged citizens of Akwa Ibom State to inculcate a strong sense of maintenance culture in order to sustain basic infrastructures provided by the State Government.
Speaking with newsmen, Prince Ntuk Udeh pointed out that the act of governance is the responsibility of every citizen, hence, the need to guard the infrastructures with jealousy.
His words: "Governance is a corporate responsibility of every citizen, we expect that after working on the roads, people should help to maintain the infrastructures so that the grasses don't grow or things that would take the roads and other infrastructures to the stages they were before intervention would not happen.
"We expect people to maintain the gullies during sanitation, avoid dumping refuse inside the gullies nor engage in activities that are disastrous to government infrastructures. Citizens should partner with the government to do those things that would sustain infrastructures provided by the government and abstain from carrying out those activities that would cause damages to government infrastructures.â€
The AKROIMA helmsman promised that the Agency would do its best to intervene on potholes, failed portions and other infrastructures inconveniences experienced by citizens of Akwa Ibom State, adding that Nelson Mandela as well as Udoette streets are top on the list of roads that would be tackled by AKROIMA in no distant time.
Some of the roads already intervened and inspected by AKROIMA included: Robert Udo Ekpo Nsikak Eduok Avenue, Udeme Simon Avenue, Osongama, Ikot Abasi Street (ongoing), Edem Akai Street, Ewet Housing Estate, all in Uyo Local Government as well as Ikot Udobia Road and Etinan Junction in Etinan Local Government. Other roads earmarked for quick intervention by the agency are: Uyo Road by Stadium Road, Etinan Local Government, Enen Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government, Nelson Mandela, Udoette, and many others.
