The speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has announced minor changes in the leadership of some standing committees.
In the new arrangement, the House Committee on Science and Technology which had the speaker, Mr Aniekan Bassey, as the interim chairman, is now headed by the member for Ini State Constituency and the chief whip of the House, Mr Emmanuel Ekpenyong.
The Committee on Petroleum Matters previously headed by the former member for Mbo State Constituency, Mr Frank Okon, is now chaired by the member for Ika/Etim Ekpo State Constituency, Mr Mfon Idung who was before now, the chairman, House Committee on Economic Planning.
Also, the member for Mbo State Constituency, Mr Effiong Johnson, is now the chairman House Committee on Boundary and Conflict Resolution which was formerly headed by the member for Ini State Constituency, Mr Emmanuel Ekpenyong.
The speaker also appointed Mr Effiong Johnson as a member into seven standing committees Economic Planning, Health, Women Affairs, Works and Transport, Environment and Mineral Resources, Petroleum Matters, Special Duties, Project monitoring, Implementation and Aviation.
While pointing out that the readjustments were to ensure political inclusion and effective service delivery in the Seventh Assembly, Bassey noted that the chairmen, deputy chairmen and members of all other special and standing committees of the House as earlier constituted remain the same till further notice.
