Be Worthy Ambassadors To Judiciary - CJ

The chief judge of Akwa  Ibom has charged the 36 members of 2019 retirees of the state judiciary to continually project the sector in good light as its worthy ambassadors.
Justice Godwin Abraham gave the charge during the send-off ceremony of the retirees at Multi-purpose Hall, Judiciary Headquarters, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, recently.
Among the retirees were chief registrar, Customary Court of Appeal, Edet Obot Esq, registrars of different grades and a chief executive officer.
The chief judge stated that it was heart-warming to remember that in the course of their work, they were hard-working and always committed to their duties. Some of them greatly and positively impacted on the state judiciary and left noticeable footprints behind them.
He said, "Life is in phases as they have successfully transited from a phase of active civil service to that of challenges.”
However, the virtues of integrity, hard work and perseverance which they inculcated during their time in the service of the judiciary stood them in good stead to scale every hurdle of life and carve a niche for themselves, calling on the retirees to deprecate strife and promote social harmony wherever life leads them so as to be worthy ambassadors of the judiciary.
Justice Abraham noted that life may lead many of them to other gainful employment or enterprises as they were still full of vigour and obviously not tired. He advised that as they tinkered with what next to do with life, they must make out more time for their creator and find true peace which can only come from a deep relationship with God. "You must seek true happiness which comes only from loving the Lord,” he added.
He urged the retired staff that as they had returned in one piece to their families, they should spend more time with their families and generally make up for lost times, saying it was time for relaxation and rest after the assiduous labour in the service of their fatherland.
The chief judge thanked Gov Udom Emmanuel for making funds available for the ceremony and for all other ways he has facilitated the smooth functioning of the judiciary in the state; appealing to him to employ additional staff because since 2013 when they had their last recruitment of staff, 514 staff have retired, thus creating a huge lacuna in the staff strength in the Judiciary.
In his reaction, Edet Obot Esq on behalf of the retirees thanked God for making him to be part of the epoch-making occasion.
Obot said he had served for the past 24 years and has retired to "a normal life of strength and good health.”
High point of the event was the presentation of gift items to the retirees by the chief judge.
