Bassey Sues For Well-equipped Fire Station In A'Ibom

The member for Oron/Udung Uko State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has called on government to provide a modern fire fighting equipment to all fire fighting areas operating in the state without delay to aid them in discharging their duties effectively.
Mr Effiong Bassey made the call in his report in a motion presented to the House during plenary recently on the abysmal performance of the Akwa Ibom State Fire fighting service.
Coming under order III, Rule 1, the lawmaker stated that inadequate equipment remains the main hindrance why the fire service could not discharge their roles and services appropriately.
He added that, apart from the purchase of equipment, he was of the view that the fire men should be trained and retrained on the use of modern fire fighting equipment, as well as the techniques of fire fighting.
Bassey said that fire men in Akwa Ibom State should also be provided with incentives and efficient policies to cover the risk associated with their work as the fire service needed a complete turn around and maintenance for efficiency and effectiveness.
