The Akwa Ibom government in partnership with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)has indicated plans to remodel the Union Cottage Hospital, Asong in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
The units of the hospital to be reconstructed to modern standard include: theatre, laboratory, Out Patient Department (OPD), administration block, pharmacy, consulting room, wards, staff quarters, kitchen and canteen.
Others are: the provision of a new solar powered borehole, gate house, car porch, landscaping and a car park.
The special assistant to the governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Mr Elijah Udoiyak, who made this known during a working visit to the hospital said that the dilapidated facility will be refurbished to a standard one for optimum services to the people at the grassroots.
Udoiyak while inspecting the facility told the contractors those additional structures would be constructed to accommodate more patients and health workers in the hospital.
He reiterated the state government's commitment in ensuring effective healthcare for the well-being of all and sundry in line with the Goal three of the Global Goals.
Udoiyak added that arrangement had been concluded for the commencement of construction work at the cottage facility, stressed that on completion it would boost healthcare delivery for the community and its environs.
The SSA appreciated health personnel and stakeholders for making useful inputs in terms of design and drawings in the project
Udoiyak assured that the reconstruction work would be completed as scheduled and urged contractors to ensure the timely delivery of the project.
He called on the host community to protect the facility against vandalism to attract more projects from the SDGs and the government.
