The monthly jogging exercise approved for civil servants in the state is part of measures by government to ensure a fit and healthy workforce for higher performance and productivity.
Akwa Ibom commissioner of information, Sir Charles Udoh, stated this at the weekend, while speaking with newsmen soon after participating in the February 2020 edition of Jogging to Serve Better exercise, which took place at the Unity Park, along Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
Udoh, who said the exercise is highly commendable, reiterated that the monthly jogging will help keep off sicknesses from civil servants, who are the engine room of government and keep them strong and fit for higher performance and maximum productivity.
He therefore urged all civil servants to embrace the programme to stay healthy and contribute their quota to the development processes of government, stressing that it was a lot easy to exercise and keep strong than to stay off exercise and spend resources on medications and hospital bills.
Speaking, the head of civil service, Elder Effiong Essien, who assured workers of receiving their new minimum wage in the February salary, said workers will also enjoy arrears for the past month of January as well as the free one month bonus for the month of December 2019.
Essien expressed appreciation to Gov Udom Emmanuel for his magnanimous gesture towards workers in the state and urged civil servants to reciprocate the kind disposition of the governor by being alert to their assigned duties and shunning attitudes that are inimical to the growth and progress of the service.
He warned against such acts like lateness, truancy, procrastination in the discharge of duties and sitting on personal matters of co-workers by locking up official files in the drawers.
The head of civil service used the avenue to call on workers who participated in the jogging exercise to give three loud ovations to the state information boss, Sir Charles Udoh, for attending the jogging exercise for the first time and requested the commissioner to invite other members of the State Executive Council to attend the exercise in subsequent months.
Highlight of the event attended by a cross section of permanent secretaries, including the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Mr Inyang Jameson and that of the Office of the Governor, Dr Nathaniel Adiakpan, among others was a session of body fit drilling by the coaches.
