AKHA Passes Urban And Regional Planning Bill Into Law

The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly (AKHA) has passed into Law a Bill for the Establishment of Urban and Regional Planning Board and Area Planning Authorities and for all other matters connected therewith.
  The Bill, which had earlier scaled first, second readings and committee stage was read a third time at plenary through a motion by the member for Oruk Anam State Constituency and the leader of the House, Sir Udo Kierian Akpan and was seconded by the member for Etinan State Constituency and the deputy leader of the House, Mr Aniefiok Dennis.
  The House while enumerating the importance of the bill, said when assented to by Gov. Udom Emmanuel would provide sustainable modalities for physical planning, development and control of urban and rural space in Akwa Ibom and would provide the needed legal framework for proper planning, development control and management of physical space in the state.
  The bill as passed would outline the guidelines and procedures for development control activities in line with urban and regional planning law of the country.
  The bill is also expected to improve the revenue base of the state through registration and approval of building development and fines from defaulters in both urban and rural areas of the state.
  The speaker, Mr Aniekan Bassey, directed the clerk of the House, Mrs Mandu Umoren, to send a copy of the bill to Gov Udom Emmanuel for assent.
  Also deliberated in the House were House of Assembly Motion (HAM) 134, "Incessant and Unauthorized Encroachment of Communities in Ini Local Government Area by Neighbouring Abia State Communities, sponsored by the member for Ini State Constituency, Mr Emmanuel Ekpenyong, and the House of Assembly Motion 135 "The Need for Teachers Training and Retraining on E-learning Tools in Preparation for Post COVID-19 Education Model sponsored by the member for Ika/Etim Ekpo State Constituency, Mr Mfon Idung.
  Also, a "Bill on the Concern over Deeply Excavated Gully Abandoned Site in Akwa Ibom College of Education, Afaha Nsit: A call for immediate intervention to avert disaster, sponsored by the member for Nsit Ibom State Constituency, Mr Ifiok Udoh and the House of Assembly Motion 137 "Trespass and Sale of Government Land: A call for urgent Action, sponsored by the member for Mkpat Enin State Constituency, Mr Victor Ekwere, were presented to the House for legislative actions.
