Chairmanship Hopeful Outlines Programmes, Projects For Uruan

A licensed surveyor and an aspirant to the chairmanship position in Uruan Local Government, Mr Iniobong Ekpenyong, has promised to turn Uruan into a robust, vibrant economically viable local government in the country.
Ekpenyong in a chat with Midweek Politics said if given the mandate, he would give security, education, human capital development, public / private partnership, health care service delivery and agriculture topmost priority in his administration.
The aspirant, a lecturer in the Department of Survey, Akwa Ibom Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, said he would contest under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He listed some of turn-key projects and programmes to include: a unique skills acquisition scheme for indigenes of Uruan covering the 11 wards in the local government area, stressing that the training would be systematic with a take-off grant given to each trainee after completion of training, provision of health care, empowerment and creation of employment opportunities to Uruan youths.
According to Ekpenyong, "We will partner the state government, agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other developmental bodies to implement programmes, policies and projects that would bring development to the good people of Uruan and raise their standard of living.
"While I was in university, I was the president of the National Association of Uruan Students, University of Uyo Chapter. I am also a patron of the National Association of Uruan Students (NAUS), Akwa Ibom Polytechnic Chapter. I have worked in many places gaining experience and adding value, among them are the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, Office of the Surveyor General, Akwa Ibom and Akwa Ibom Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
Ekpenyong said he was awarded the overall best candidate in professional essay from the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) and also a recipient of other social awards due to his contributions to the society.
He is a graduate of Survey and Geo-informatics from the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) and also holds a post-graduate certificate from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Ekpenyong attended Christ the King Nursery/Primary School before proceeding to Uyo High School and the prestigious St. Mary's Science College, Abak, for his secondary school education.
