Oba Of Benin Warns Politicians Against Violence
The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N'Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11, has warned members of political parties not to turn the state into a war zone because of gubernatorial ambition.
The monarch, who was reacting to the incident that happened on Saturday July 25, 2020, in the vicinity of the Oredo Local Government Secretariat close to the palace gate, stated this in a statement signed by the secretary of the Benin Traditional Council (BTC), Frank Irabor.
He recalled that he had a cordial meeting with his esteemed august visitors led by Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, and was "surprised to hear later that there was an incident outside the palace directly in front of Oredo Local Government Secretariat.
The monarch while recalling his cordial relationship with the august visitors including the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, and his counterpart in Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said the meeting ended well. Going forward, he expressed his condemnation of "this unruly behaviour that occurred in front of the palace.
He reiterated that the Benin throne is not partisan while advising "all political parties members not to turn Edo State to a war zone because of gubernatorial ambition. "His Royal Majesty is committed to peace and tranquility in the state and peaceful upcoming gubernatorial election.
In conclusion, he enjoined all well-meaning indigenes of Edo State to join him "in continuous prayers for peace and tranquility in Edo State and peaceful upcoming gubernatorial election.
