A'Ibom Govt House Prayer C'ttee Gives Succour Widows Founddation

The Akwa Ibom Gov ernment House Monthly Prayer Meeting Committee has given succour to the widows of Bishop Enobong Essien Help Foundation, a unit of Gospel Foundation Mission International , Etinan.

At the visit to the foundation, Wednesday, the committee offered prayers, donated cash, food stuffs , beverages and other items for distribution to the widows.

The special assistant to the governor on religious affairs, Rev Daniel Akwatang, who led the committee on the visit, Wednesday, said it was in line with Gov Udom Emmanuel's love and care to the vulnerable persons in the society.

Akwatang stated that the prayer committee with Pastor Emmanuel Bassey as chairman, prays for the government and the people of Akwa Ibom, while offering received are used to take care of the less-privileged persons in the society. Making reference to James 1: 27, the clergy reminded the women of the offering of a widow which was regarded as the best among all and tagged: Widow's Might, because she gave all she had.

Akwatang who gave a short sermon on the theme: God Knows You, advised the women to serve God wholeheartedly and be virtuous to be known by Him, adding that their husbands might have died but God remains theirs as widows. He also referred to Luke 2: 36, imploring the women to see themselves as the Biblical Prophetess Anna who lost her husband after seven years of marriage, but lived 84 years in the temple of God, demonstrating exemplary character of a godly widow by praying and rendering services to God and those in need of spiritual atonement.

The governor's aide further admonished the widows not to be idle, but to help themselves like Anna through gaging in farming and small scale businesses for sustenance. He appreciated the founder, Bishop Enobong Essien, for her vision and sacrifices to humanity, particularly the gathering of widows from different backgrounds to seek the face of God.

The chairman of the committee, Bassey and a member, Bishop Isaiah Isong both prayed God to protect and provide the widows with longevity and abundant blessings. Receiving the team and the items, Essien appreciated the governor for the gesture and prayed God to bless and guide him to continue impacting on the society.

She said the foundation which was established in 2001, evolves the gathering of women from different denominations, some who are physically challenged or accident victims to pray for God's favour, protection and provision. Essien, who is a member of the prayer committee thanked the chairman and members for choosing the foundation for the succour and prayed God to strengthen the committee to do more for those in need. On the visit were: the presidents, Believers Assembly, Bishop Isaiah Isong; Insight Bible Church, Dr Sylvanus Ukafia and Rev Joseph Eton of the Presbyterian Church Nigeria, among other clergymen.
