AKSG Cancels Senior Staff 2019 Promotion Interview In The State Civil Service

The Akwa Ibom government has can celled the senior staff 2019 promotion interviews in the civil service of the state.

Consequently, the state government has directed the chairman of the civil service commission to conduct fresh promotion interviews for qualified personnel from grade levels 7 and above in the state civil service.

Gov Udom Emmanuel gave the directive while briefing journalists after a day session of the state executive council meeting which took place at Government House, Uyo, Wednesday.

Emmanuel, represented by the state commissioner for information and strategy, Mr Ini Ememobong, alongside his colleagues in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Ini Adiakpan, as well as that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr Oman Esin, said that the fresh promotion interviews for year 2019 would allow for attaining greater inclusivity in the senior cadre of civil service positions of the state.

The governor said that the decision to set aside the outcome of the previous interviews to the affected grade of personnel was reached after a careful review of the report of last promotion interview, explaining that it was observed that a large number of qualified personnel were left unattended to and neither assessed during the period of the promotion interviews.

He remarked that adherence to the conduct of a fresh promotion interviews would open opportunities for those left out but qualified to be duly interviewed and assessed for promotions meant for the year 2019 in the civil service of the state, adding that the decision for a fresh process would further to allow every qualified personnel to be examined on the same parameters of due promotions.

Emmanuel stated that the head of the civil service has been given the mandate to immediately commence all the processes required to grant fresh promotion interviews for all qualified civil servants, maintaining that all the processes must be concluded and reported to the council, before October 1, 2020.

The governor noted that the fresh promotion interviews would bring to bear equality among the personnel, adding that the process would allow no one due for promotions to miss out within the period. Emmanuel also announced that the executive council has approved the setting up of a public private partnership structure for the managing of the Ibom E-library, saying the expected management structure would facilitate optimal utilization of the library in the interest of the people of Akwa Ibom.

He stated that the process of getting the requisite legal framework for the new management structure of the library would be carried out soon, remarking that the half year report of Le Meridian Ibom Hotels and Golf Recreation Center has been adjudged to be impressive while the state government still calls for more business aggressive disposition from the management of the hotels.

The governor enjoined the generality of the people of Akwa Ibom to continue in taking responsibility of staying safe from the COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining that appropriate preparations have been taken in schools to allow students partake in the coming external examinations in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
