Governor Udom Emmanuel has promised to complete the ongoing Etinan-Ndon Eyo Road project before the end of his tenure.
The governor made the pledge while commissioning Ikot Ebekpo-Ikot Ebidang Road and jetty projects in ONNA Local Government, Friday.
Emmanuel while promising the people of his local government more befitting governance, noted that his administration was determined to make the difference.
He stressed that during his campaigns and consultations in the community few years back, the road was a no-go-area, adding that he was delighted to have seen the road completed by a local contractor.
"Let me corroborate the speech earlier made by my House member. This road was impassable and we had to trek four kilometres to this location."
"I want to thank Obong Uforo Sunny Udonsek for giving us his premises for the activity of my consultation. The people pleaded for the road to be considered and I am pleased this has been achieved through the competence of local contractor, Benest Technical Services", the governor noted.
The commissioner for works and fire service, Professor Eno Ibanga, in his speech noted that the road project was a 9.5 kilometres in length with 8.5 metres wide carriageway, reinforced concrete side drains on both sides.
Ibanga stressed that the road project has a reinforced concrete culverts at designated locations, and climaxed at a jetty which he said has a parking lot and shore line protection.
The commissioner while praising the capacity of the contractor, Benest Technical Services, emphasized that the contractor had justified the confidence reposed on him by successfully completing the work in line with the international standards and specifications.
He added that the 9.5 kilometres road project spanned from Ikot Ebekpo to Ikot Ebidang in Onna Local Government.
Ibanga continued: "Few years ago, no indigene would have believed that the place we are staying today could be accessed with vehicles. This area was totally waterlogged. The area has today been opened for economic activities.
With the construction of the jetty, investors will be attracted to the community."
The commissioner while winding down his speech, said he was pleased with the Akwa Ibom governor and his wife, as well as everyone at the occasion of the Ikot Ebekpo-Ikot Ebidang Road and Jetty project commissioning.
Speaking also at the project commissioning event were chief of staff to the governor, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-eyen; CEO/managing director, Benest Technical Services, Elder Ben Udobia; member for ONNA State Constituency, Mr Nse Essien and chairman of ONNA Local Government Council, Mr Imo Attat.
They quadruple who separately spoke glowingly about the governor noted that the Gov Emmanuel is a promise-keeper.
Highlight of the event was cutting of tape by the Governor Emmanuel to herald a new beginning in the area.
