The official declaration of the Diocese of the Mount Zion Lighthouse Full Gospel Church (MZLFG), Ikot Ekpene, was made recently by the president/general overseer and registered trustee of the church, His Lordship, Bishop Paul Augustine.
In attendance at the long expected ceremony were the executive council members of the church including the vice president, Bishop Nyong Ayakndue; the mission secretary, Apostle Elijah Philips; the territorial bishop, Dr M. O. Ufot; and the host superintendent of the new diocese, Bishop Udo Ekanem Akpanitiat.
Others included bishops, pastors, officers and Zionists in and outside the diocese as well as faithful from other denominations
The late Archbishop Asuquo B. U. Akpabio had announced Ikot Abia as a diocese in 1997 and the official declaration was still being awaited by faithful in the diocese until this official declaration tagged "Ekemini Abasi" by the host superintendent, Bishop Udo Akpanitiat.
History of the church in the area has it that Ikot Abia Idem assembly now declared as diocesan headquarters, which fostered the foundation of the Mount Zion Lighthouse Full Gospel Church Incorporated in Nigeria, began with the burning desire and spiritual visions of Apostle John Obot Assiak of blessed memory.
In all these, the president, Archbishop Augustine, in his declaration speech and sermon repeatedly gave glory to God, who has through His grace granted the desires of Zionists in the area by making everything beautiful in His time and season, hence the theme of the dedication ceremony, "The Appointed Time."
Archbishop Augustine congratulated the diocesan superintendent, Bishop Itiat, in whose tenure the church has achieved the long awaited declaration and transformation.
He commended all officers and worshippers in the diocese for their hard work in uplifting God's work in the area to a higher level and prayed for their advancement in life.
Appreciation speeches were made by the host Bishop Akpanitiat, the chairman, planning committee, Presiding Elder Ibanga Ukut; invited personalities, chiefs, pastors and officers from fellowships in assemblies making up the diocese.
Apart from ordination of new pastors, activities at the event included songs from Utu Edem Usung national choir and other assemblies, special appeal for church project and dedication of the diocesan headquarters church building.
