Wife Of Ibesikpo Asutan Lawmaker Commends Governor's Wife For Giving Women A Sense Of Belonging
The council hall of
Ibesikpo Asutan Local
Government Area,
Nung Udoe, was filled to capacity as the women of the
area came out in their large
numbers to gather for their
monthly prayers for the first
time after the coronavirus
lockdown to praise and thank
God for keeping and preserving their lives during and after
the pandemic.
The wife of the member for
Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency, Mrs Ememobong
Uko, thanked the women for
coming out in their large numbers to praise and thank God
and also lauded them for their
commitment in keeping the fire
of the monthly prayer summit
burning.
She commended the wife of
the governor, Mrs Martha
Udom Emmanuel, for carving
a niche for women in the state
and giving them a sense of
belonging in the present political dispensation, describing
it as unprecedented in the history of Akwa Ibom politics.
"I want to thank the wife of
the governor from the depth
of my heart for giving the
women a voice in Akwa Ibom
politics. We can see women
emerging as council chairmen,
council vice chairmen, councillors, supervisory councillors
and special assistants, among
others.
The governor's wife has
carved a niche for Akwa Ibom
women and we are very proud
of her, Uko stated.
The lawmaker's wife used
the opportunity to congratulate the chairmanship hopeful
in Ibesikpo Asutan, Mrs Akon
Michael, attributing her success at the primaries to God
whom they served diligently.
She called on the women to
keep serving God and not relent as better days were coming, hoping that their efforts
will not be in vain.
Michael thanked the women
for their steadfastness in the
monthly prayer meeting, commending Uko, the initiator, for
her support in sustaining the
meeting.
The chairmanship hopeful
also used the opportunity to
thank everyone who prayed
and contributed immensely
towards her emergence as the
Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) chairmanship candidate,
assuring that she will carry
everyone along including the
women and make Ibesisikpo
Asutan better than she met it.
In her homily, Bishop Emilia
Samuel, who spoke on the
theme My Decision, charged
the women to always make good and right decisions as a
good decision guides the future.
Drawing her message from
the book of First Kings 3:16-
28, she advised the women
against taking decisions that
will divide the local government, but rather decisions that
will build Ibesikpo Asutan and
take it to greater heights, calling on them to take decisions
that will sometimes let go of
some of their rights for the sake
of peace just as the harlot in
the Bible who took a decision
that was later beneficial to her.
"Don't act by what people
tell you, but always be led by
the spirit of God to take useful
and rightful decisions at all
times, Samuel stated.
The clergy warned the
women not to disrespect their
husbands at home in decisionmaking, but rather play their
roles as wives and mothers
perfectly to bring out their sterling qualities which will make
their husbands show them
love the more.
She congratulated Michael
on her emergence as the PDP
chairmanship candidate for the
forthcoming local government
elections, describing it as
God's divine reward for her
unrelenting commitment in the
presence of God.
In attendance at the prayer
meeting were the wife of the
head of civil service of Akwa
Ibom State, Mrs Uduakobong
Effiong Esien and other personalities.
