Speaker Condoles With Victims Of EndSARS Protests

The speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly (AKHA) has condoled with victims of the recent EndSARS protest in Akwa Ibom State and the country at large.

Mr Aniekan Bassey in his speech at plenary recently condemned in totality the killings of innocent and unarmed youths who he noted were exercising their constitutional rights.

"I deeply sympathize with the families of the slain heroes and pray for a speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries in the course of the peaceful protest," Bassey stated.

He urged the youth to exercise restraint and allow measures put in place by government to prevail, harping on the need for youths to give peace a chance while making their legitimate demands.

The speaker commended UYO Gov Udom Emmanuel for setting up a judicial panel of investigation to unravel incidences of police brutality in the state, appealing to the Federal Government to ensure that perpetrators of the Lekki Tollgate killings and those involved in police brutality were brought to book.

The lawmaker observed a minute of silence in honour of the victims who lost their lives during the demonstration against police brutality
