Agric Ministry Appreciates Retired Staff With Gifts

The Ministry of Agriculture has hosted its 2018 to 2020 retired staff to a farewell ceremony for the purpose of appreciating them for their contributions to the all round growth and progress of the ministry.

The event, which was held at the Civil Service Auditorium, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo, featured special prayers, dance session and presentation of gifts to the retirees by the management of the Ministry.

The commissioner for agriculture, Dr Glory Edet, while addressing the retirees, expressed appreciation for their positive contributions to the Ministry during their service years, assuring that the Ministry would continue to carry them along in the promotion of food production in the state.

Edet, who is also the dean, College of Commissioners and Special Advisers, enjoined the retirees of the ministry to continue to keep themselves busy by learning new crafts in their next phase of life.

Earlier, the director of administration in the Ministry, Mr. Ifiok Udo, appreciated the commissioner for her vision to celebrate the retirees, noting that such initiative would go a long way to encourage the present staff to contribute their utmost to the growth and development of the Ministry.

In their separate goodwill messages, directors in the Ministry, Mr Emmanuel Akpan, Mrs Mary Eyo, Mr Aniefiok Isong, Lady Nse Ekpenyong, Mr Solomon John, the national president of Coconut Association, Okoroji and the programme manager, Akwa Ibom Agricultural Development Programme (AKADEP), Mr Okon Ndehedehe, all thanked the commissioner for organising the event to honour those who served the Ministry of Agriculture meritoriously, describing the gesture as rare and first of its kind.

They all wished the retirees well and prayed God to sustain and keep them to live long and reap more fruits of their labours. The immediate past permanent secretary in the Ministry, Dr John Markson, as well as Mrs Essien Uweh and Mr Monday Akpabio, in their separate responses on the occasion, on behalf of the retirees, lauded Gov Udom Emmanuel for appointing Dr Glory Edet to the Ministry of Agriculture, describing her as a square peg in a square hole.

They appreciated the commissioner for honouring them in such an elevated manner and prayed God to richly reward her.
