The speaker of the Akwa
Ibom House of Assembly (AKHA) has lauded
Gov Udom |Emmanuel for inaugurating the new chairmen
and vice chairmen to run the
affairs of the 31 local government councils in the state as
the effort will strengthen
grassroots development.
Mr Aniefiok Bassey who
said this shortly after the inauguration ceremony at the
State Banquet Hall in Uyo recently, commended the quality of men and women elected
to run the councils, describing them as people of proven
integrity who will bring
grassroot development to the
people.
He urged them not to betray the confidence reposed on
them by the governor and the
people of Akwa Ibom State,
maintaining that Akwa Ibom
State was growing very fast
and very soon the concept of
rural area would not be applicable to any part of the state
as the government was working hard to meet the yearnings
of the people at the grassroots
by providing them with basic
amenities to include good access roads, healthcare and
schools among others.
The speaker added that the essence was to make rural areas lively and economically
viable, calling on the newlyinaugurated chairmen and vice
chairmen to see the governor's
effort as a call to service of the
people, as well as carrying out
their responsibilities efficiently.
Bassey assured that the
House of Assembly will continue to collaborate with other
arms of government in making
legislations that will enhance
democratic dividends and
good governance at the local
government level.
The lawmaker advised the
new council heads to be alive
to their responsibilities and
build upon the governor's call
for political inclusiveness by
making governance at the local government level vibrant
and responsive.
