Oku Ibom Ibibio Admonishes Faithful On Essence Of Jesus Christ Birth

The Oku Ibom Ibibio and chairman of Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk has called on Christians and the world generally to reflect on essence of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio said as the world celebrates Xmas, the festivities should not becloud the significance of Jesus Christ, who is God's sent Saviour to humanity.

In a special message on the occasion of the celebration of Christmas, the premier traditional ruler in Akwa Ibom State, Ntenyin Etuk admonished against abominable acts that will cause harm or destruction of lives during festivities.

He said that as Jesus Christ stood for peace and rejuvenation, believers have to exemplify such virtues in their daily lives.

"If we truly believe in Jesus Christ, then we must abide by his divine teachings of love, peace and unity. We have to abhor violence and also learn to be our brothers' keepers.

"We cannot be followers of Jesus Christ yet we indulge in evil and hate one another. Let us support the government at all levels to maintain peace. "Let us show brotherly love to one another. Let those who are able, show love and mercy to the less privileged in our midst, he urged.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio, who is the chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University, also appealed to citizens to observe the protocol on Covid-19 as we are facing a resurgence of the dreaded disease.

He said, "It is most unfortunate that at a time we were expecting Covid-19 pandemic to be over, we are instead, experiencing second wave. We must wear facemask, wash our hands with alcohol based hand sanitizers regularly and maintain social distancing in line with protocols by WHO, NCDC and the state government.

The royal father prayed for continued peace, harmony and development in Akwa Ibom State and the success of Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration.
