Ayade Blames Military For Inability To Disband Insurgency, Banditry

Governor Ben Ayade has ex-pressed as tonishment as to why the Nigerian military, with all its might, has not been able to disband insurgency, banditry, and other vices bedevilling the Nigerian society. Ayade stated this at the Christian religious worship for the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Week, which took place on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Usang Iso Memorial Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Akim Qua Town Parish in Calabar. He asked, "Why do we still have the lingering issue of insurgency in our country for all these years? Is it failure in our intelligence? Speaking through his deputy, Professor Ivara Esu, the governor enjoined the Armed Forces to deploy the use of satellite and other relevant technologically advanced ways in a bid to restore law and order, peace and security to Nigeria and her citizens. He charged the nation's Armed Forces to better their in telligence architecture and put an end to every unrest rocking the country. Governor Ayade also seized the opportunity to thank the service chiefs for their tireless efforts in trying to keep the country safe. He also said the yearly event availed the people the opportunity to pray for the nation's Armed Forces, remember and honour those who paid the supreme price, as well as cater for the families they have left behind. Also speaking, chairman, Nigerian Legion, Cross River State, Captain Joseph Offiong (rtd) called on the government to continue making use of members of the legion. Offiong opined that with their wealth of experience, exservice men can still contribute in no small measure to the success of the military, especially in the area of information gathering and other important aspects. He also urged the authorities to continue to give priority attention to ex-servicemen and families of fallen heroes. In a sermon titled, "Eternity is sure, with Bible readings taken from Exodus chapter 12: 1- 11 and Hebrews chapter 11: 5- 10, the minister, Rev. Ulari Ogbonna, described the life of a military personnel as "a message in itself. Ogbonna reminded military personnel that the fervent patriotism, especially of those who have paid with their lives in service to fatherland, shall not go unrewarded by their Creator. While admonishing all to be ever prepared "for when God will call them unto eternity as no one knows, she prayed for God's sufficiency and grace upon the families left behind by the fall of their breadwinners, and called on well meaning Nigerians to show empathy for the fatherless children and widows of the fallen heroes.
