Management of
hospitals in the
state have been
charged to maximize the
potentials of the facilities for
optimum service delivery.
The commissioner for
health, Professor Augustine Umoh, gave the charge
during his familiarisation visit
to the General Hospital,Iquita Oron ,recently.
Umoh stressed that he
was very impressed with the
sanitary condition of the hospital, especially considering
the fact that his visit to the
hospital was not scheduled.
The commissioner noted
that the basic components of
what made a general hospital was intact, but decried
that those components were
not harnessed for maximal
functionality of the hospital.
He pointed out that the
state government had committed huge resources to the
renovation and re-equipping of the facility ,but lamented
that some of the equipment
were not effectively being
put to use.
Umoh observed that there
was need to build capacity
to man the machines even
as he stressed that every
equipment that was installed
had to be maximally utilized.
The commissioner said
that the aim of his visit was
to have a first hand idea on
the daily running of the hospital and submitted that although the hospital was doing well, there was still room for improvement.
The medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr.
Noah, extolled the commissioner for taking out time to
visit the hospital.
He said he had noted the
concerns of the health boss
and would work towards attaining maximal utilization of
the hospital.
With the commissioner
were the chairman of Hospitals Management Board,
Dr. David Udo Umoh, permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr Patrick Essiet, as
well as the directors.
