Akwa United held on to
their 53rd minutes
goal to beat Plateau
United 1-0 in the Nigeria Professional Football League,
despite being reduced to 10 players to move up to 5th
place on the table.
Charles Atshimene scored on the 53rd minute after
beautifully receiving a pass
from Ndifreke Effiong to
smash home his second goal
of the season.
The Promise-Keepers
were reduced to 10 men after Etboy Akpan received his
second yellow of the match
on 63rd minute after the defender elbowed Plateau
United player.
The visitors had chances
to level the score but Akwa
United held on to secure a
third straight victory at home
and their fourth win in five
matches.
The coach, Kennedy
Boboye, said his boys exhibited a tactical approach to the
game which enabled them
to triumph over Plateau
United despite having to
manage the game with 10
men after Etboy was redcarded.
Match-winner for Akwa
United, Atshimene, with
two goals in the kitty has
promised to score , even as
he set 20 goals target for
himself.
The win moves the twotime Federations Cup champions to fifth in the NPFL
table with 18 points, same
points with fourth-place Rivers United.
