A’Ibom Suffers Defeat In Final Beach Volleyball
The Akwa Ibom Beach Volleyball gold hopeful has been beaten to the silver medal position by their Ogun State opponents at the final of the competition in the ongoing National Youth Games.
The Akwa Ibom boys who played to the final were scandalously beaten 30-12 by their Ogun State counterparts in the final which the duo fought tirelessly fight for supremacy.
Speaking after the tireless effort, the coach, Edidiong Isong, said he was sure of picking a gold medal, stressing that it was painful to have lost to Ogun who were not even good contestants.
He said: “It is a game of sports. In the last competition, Akwa Ibom had bronze and they have graduated to silver medal, and we have to thank God.
I will go back to the drawing board to really prepare them for any subsequent competition in the near future.”
Meanwhile, squash has added a bronze medal to Akwa Ibom as well as Ayo with gold medal.
The beach volleyball players who wept uncontrollably were comforted by the director of Sports, Lawrence Iquaibom and elder Paul Bassey who watched the final competition.
Track and field events commenced on Saturday last week while there is a protest from Akwa Ibom on weightlifting.
