AKSG Declares Sept 1 Statewide Fasting, Prayers
The Akwa Ibom government has declared a one-day statewide fasting and prayers on September 1, 2019 to mark the commencement of activities for the 32nd anniversary of the state creation.
Additionally, prior to the fasting and prayers, the state government will host One-day super leadership training on 31st August, while a two-day Education Summit will also be arranged on September 5 – 6, 2019.
Gov Udom Emmanuel, watched by the state deputy governor, made the announcements for the fasting and prayers, leadership training and Summit activities during the August edition of the Government House monthly prayer meeting, which took place at the Latter House Chapel, Governor’s Lodge, Uyo, Saturday.
Emmanuel said that the fasting and prayers would further allow his administration opportunities of presenting the desires of the people of Akwa Ibom to God, hoping that divine solutions would be accorded the state.
The governor said that the first day of the month would be set aside to observe individual and Christian group fasting at separate locations in the state, in addition to the usual covenant prayer service, directing that the fasting be rounded off with a large gathering of Christian faithful at the Government House, by 4pm.
Emmanuel, who announced the theme of the celebration of the 32nd anniversary of Akwa Ibom to be, “For I believe God,” said that the challenges facing Akwa Ibom and other states of the Federation required complete dependence on God rather than on the dictates of individuals, calling on all persons to look forward to participation in the planned fasting and prayer session.
He mentioned that the planned leadership training would be mandatory for all members of the State Executive Council, members of Boards and Commissions, members of the Government House Prayer Committee, Senior Special Assistants, SSAs, interested paramount rulers and religious leaders, maintaining that attendance would further be determined by availability of space at the Government House Banquet Hall.
Emmanuel stated that leadership training session would be worth the time and resources expected to be injected into the one day session, adding that there was need for the training of leaders overseeing the running of strategic public offices in the state.
The governor remarked that the summit on education would help in charting a new direction in learning for the next generation rather than hooking aimlessly on educational curriculum devoid of creative talents development.
He hinted that the focus was not to detach from the present curriculum of securing scores in post primary schools’ public examinations, but to tailor an educational system in raising artisans, craftsmen and professionals in different endeavours.
