Akwa Ibom Hits Medal Table With 14 Gold ...Maintains 3rd Position
Akwa Ibom has hit the medals table with 14 gold, four silver, and a bronze one week after the commencement of the fourth edition of the National Youth Games holding in the University of Ilorin in Kwara State.
In 400 metres, Imaobong Uko won a gold medal.
Weightlifting alone gave the highest gold with three from Maria Attat in the 42kg category while Namsifon Ekanem, male, hauled a gold and two silver and Emaediong Archibong, male, picked one silver in the same category.
In football, the female team picked bronze medal while the judo game gave one bronze through Iniobong Edem. Scrabble also fetched a gold medal.
The male and female teams also won a gold each in boxing.
Pioneersport, gathered that as at the time of this report, Akwa Ibom was third on the medals table.
Commenting on the performance so far, the special assistant to the governor on sports matters, Elder Paul Bassey, opined that more medals will be captured by the athletes to put the state on a comfortable position on the medals table.
