Grand Coronation Of Uyo Paramount Ruler Holds Sat, Dec 7
All is now set for the grand coronation of Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon, JP, Ambassador of Light, the paramount ruler of Uyo.
The coronation holds on Saturday, December 7, 2019 by 11 am at Ibibio Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
To this end, preparations are in top gear for the success of this epoch making event as all sons and daughters of Uyo Local Government Area, residents, in-laws, friends and well-wishers will roll out drums to celebrate the monarch, Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon.
The state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel is expected as the special guest of honour on the occasion while his deputy, Mr Moses Ekpo will be the guest of honour.
The Oku Ibom Ibibio, patriarch of Ibibio People worldwide and chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, , Ntenyin Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP will be the Royal Father of the Day.
The ceremony will be chaired by Obong Simeon Umoette, JP, a retired comptroller of customs, President of Uyo Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (UYOCCIMA) and chairman, Edidem’s Advisory Council of Uyo Traditional Rulers’ Council.
Other expected dignitaries to the event include, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District in the Senate; Senator John James AkpanUdoedeghe, a former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; MrAniekan Bassey, speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; Justice Godwin Abraham, chief judge of Akwa Ibom State; Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, secretary to the state government, Elder Effiong Essien, head of the civil service; Mr Michael Enyong, member for Uyo Federal Constituency and Mr Anietie Eka, member for Uyo State Constituency.
Others include Mr Udo Ekpenyong, commissioner, ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs; Elder Imoh Okon, chairman, Uyo Local Government Council; Prince Enobong Uwah, chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Professor Chris Ekong, Department of Economics, University of Uyo and Mr Monday Eyo, chairman, Local Government Service Commission.
Okon was elected the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, upon the demise of His Royal Majesty Edidem Edem Silas Akpan who once, served as chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs.
According to the chairman of the Central Planning Committee, and commissioner for information in the State, Sir Charles Udoh, several activities have been lined up to make the day eventful in the history of Uyo Local Government Area, and indeed, Akwa Ibom and Nigeria.
All citizens of Akwa Ibom State, non-indigenes residing in the State, captains of industries, political and religious organisations and socio-cultural groups amongst others are cordially invited to the occasion.
