NUP Advocates Creation Of Board To Manage Pension Matters

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has advocated the creation of a commission or board to oversee the management of pension matters in the state.
The secretary of the union, Dr Cosmas Essien, made the advocacyin an address he presented during a courtesy visit on the head of civil service in his office, recently.
Essien said the request became necessary to have a central forum for the management of pension matters since the union was growing very fast with attendant challenges that needed special treatment.
He suggested that the commission could be supervised by commissioners or chairman, who could be a seasoned Permanent Secretary if it is a board, while the departments could be supervised by directors.
The creation of the commission or board he said would reduce burdens and tension on government and the society, become a source of cogent information to the governor/ head of civil service, create sectors for treatment of problems and become a melting pot of problems from all departments among others.
While congratulating the Head of Civil Service on his appointment, Essien made case for the payment of what he called minimum pension to all pensioners rather than percentage.
He called on the HOS to intervene and set up modalities for the smooth payment of pension to the retired Local Government employees and retired Primary School teachers, as well as their accumulated gratuities and pension areas of civil pensioners from 2013-2015 and January to June 2016 when the former HOS, Mrs Ekereobong Akpan adopted straight transfer from salary payroll to pension payroll.
Responding, the HOS, Elder Efiong Essien, thanked the executive members of the union for the visit and their parental advice as well as prayer for him.
Essien promised a cordial working relationship with the union towards solving mist of the problems they had enlisted.
He lauded them for their position paper adding that it would assist him to raising memo on the issues that affect then and the union.
The HOS who described governor Udom Emmanuel as a friend of all pensioners in the state, nassured them of government’s commitment to salvage look into their plight and salvage them from their problems.
